Telecom TechnicianReports to head of TelecomBasic Function and scopeParticipates in the
installation, repairs and commissioning of a wide range of communications systems and equipment such
as Fibre Optic systems & networks. PA/GA systems, CCTV systems, VHF/UHF radio systems, PABX systems
& networks, structured cabling, LAN networks, Power supplies etc. The activities shall cover
onshore, offshore wellheads and Rigs.Tasks and DutiesCarries out installation, repair and
maintenance of all comms systems and structural cabling in any of the specified locations, as
directed by Supervisor. Reports any anomalies, deviation or sub standard work and proposes
solutions. Carries out work assigned by Supervisor.Assists and participates in the installation of
new systems / equipment’s including participation in commissioning, Supervises and directs
Contracted electricians.Executives planned routine maintenance as per laid down procedures and
schedules and prepares reports on completed work.Inspects received equipment and ensures correct
consignments are received. Prepares discrepancy reports to line supervisor.Ensures that systems
documentation including vendor literature, systems manuals and drawings, engineering studies etc are
available and maintained at all times. Prepares a technical library for this purpose and updates all
documents/ drawings.Attends regular meetings, as required and update his supervisor on work
progressPrepares work permits and generally ensures that work carried out in a safe and orderly
manner as per laid down procedures.Reviews contractors spare parts / equipment and recommends any
additional requirements.Responsible for the support of company safety, environment and quality
policies and programs and carrying out specific duties and responsibilities related to his job as
spelled out in Management system documentation, policies, procedures, local documentation,
management system manual, safety manual and other related documents.Work ContactsDaily contracts
with work associates and to supervisor to plan, schedule and co-ordinate work activitiesOccasional
contacts with contractors to discuss related technical mattersEducation & Experience
RequirementsCompleted Secondary ( 12 years) education plus two years full time training to
telecommunications.Minimum of 5 years directly related experience in the repair and maintenance of
telecommunications equipment as referred to in the Basic Function and Scope offshore experience will
be an advantage.Good spoken and written English5 - 7 yearsBasic - Diploma ( Telecommunication )
